This is exactly what I did to DOUBLE my product sales with the products and page views I already have by using a simple lead magnet tripwire setup. The process is very easy and I’m going to show you exactly how to set it up today!

By setting up a tripwire that goes from my freebie (lead magnet) to a product offer (at a discounted rate), I was able to double my income without having to increase page views or product offerings.
Even if you don’t have a product of your own yet, you can use this for affiliate products too.
Setting Up A Tripwire for Your Product
For those who have products or promote affiliate products, I wanted to share how I spent 30 minutes setting up a system that allowed me to drastically increase sales by using a tripwire!
First, what is a tripwire?
It is an offer that only triggers when someone buys a related product OR signs up for a related freebie.
So, my tripwire is for my Frugal Meals Cookbook, which is a freebie. When someone signs up for that freebie, ConvertKit redirects them to a sales page with a limited-time offer to buy my Money Saving Worksheets at 50% off.
Tripwires work best if there is a deep discount.
Since most of us already have a freebie that feeds into our product, this is a great way to increase sales! Since doing this, my INCOME has doubled on product sales, not just the sales numbers themselves.
Steps to Creating a Tripwire
- Create your freebie – You can do this in Canva, or even in Word and save it as a PDF. Don’t overthink this, it can be something as simple as a printable meal plan, or a cheat sheet for the topic you write about.
- Create your product – This is a larger project! I teach you exactly how to create products (and funnels) in my Crystal Clear Products course. You can also promote affiliate products, but you usually can’t offer them as a discount.
- Duplicate the product – You will need to create a duplicate product so that you can set the special sales price, and then hide it from your shop page and search results (depending on how you have that set up). I use the Search Exclude plugin.
- Create your tripwire page – This is a short pitch about your product with a limited-time price offer and a buy now button.
- Hide the tripwire – You don’t want people to be able to access your freebie page via the search function or SEO ranking, so be sure to hide this page as well. I use the Search Exclude plugin for this also.
- Connect your freebie – Now, you can do the freebie redirect in a few different ways.
- Redirect with ConvertKit (if you have that) – On the forms page, under settings, set your form to go to the tripwire page instead of showing the success message.
You will still have your email set up to send the freebie to them automatically, but instead of just seeing a success message, they will get the tripwire offer. Be sure to tell them on the tripwire page that the freebie is in their email!
- Send an email with the link – Instead of redirecting them to the tripwire directly, you can put a link in the automatic email to “get your free offer” and then link them to the tripwire page.
Have the freebie link at the very bottom of the tripwire page so they have to scroll past the sales info to get there. This isn’t my favorite way, but it will work if you don’t have access to an automatic redirect like ConvertKit has!
- Redirect with ConvertKit (if you have that) – On the forms page, under settings, set your form to go to the tripwire page instead of showing the success message.

That’s it! You’re done! This has been great for my sales and I hope it will be for yours too!
